Heritage Day

HERITAGE DAY AT THE SENECA IROQUOIS NATIONAL MUSEUM Salamanca, NY-- Join us on Saturday June 4, 2016 from 10:00am to 6:00pm at the Seneca Iroquois National Museum for our 1st Annual Heritage Day! Heritage Day is a free educational event open to the public with activities for the whole family. Native artists will be vending and demonstrating traditional arts such as beadworking, basketmaking, pottery, stone and antler carving. Traditional foods will also be available for sampling and purchase. There will also be a Smoke Dance Competition, produced by Earth Songs Productions. This competition will have categories from Tiny Tots to Golden Age. Dancer registration is at 11:00am and the competition begins at 1:00pm. The day will also include a “Seneca History Through Fashion Show” at 4:00pm. The fashion show is a collaborative effort with Michael Galban of the Ganondagan State Historic Site and will showcase 17th and 18th century Seneca regalia/clothing. Inside the Museum will be showcasing the noted artist Robert Griffing, known for his realistic paintings of historical scenes featuring Hodinošonih people. He will have prints and paintings on display and for sale. The evening will conclude with a silent auction, to benefit future exhibits and collections care at the museum. The Seneca Iroquois National Museum is located at 814 Broad Street, Salamanca, New York on the Seneca Nation Allegany Territory. Visit our website at www.senecamuseum.org or call us at (716) 945-1760.
